Veterinary Extern - General Practice

The Valley Veterinary Hospital

Job Description

We are a rural practice that sees primarily GP small animals and gladly welcomes small exotic mammals. Our current team consists of mostly RVT's and 2 doctors, plus an assistant. We value a good work/home life balance and are in an amazing area to enjoy the outdoors (think hiking, fishing, rafting, horseback riding, ATVing, and much, much more). We are closed on the weekends and our current hours are 8am-5pm Mon, Wed, and Fri, and 8am- 8pm on Tues and Thurs.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at The Valley Veterinary Hospital are designed for students in their final clinical year of veterinary school.

Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view list of stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.
