Job Description

The Center for Bird and Exotic Animal Medicine is looking for a energetic, patient focused, team oriented vet assistant to add to our growing team of 15 Veterinarians and  40 support staff!  We are a 24hr, 7 day a week Emergency and Primary Care Veterinary Clinic for Exotics!

 

A Veteriary Assistant is an invaluable member of the hospital team who works directly with our patients, clients, and supports our doctors.  They provide exceptional patient care while maintaining efficent client communication, safe patient handling, and accurate documentation.  Veterinary Assistants will be working with cleaning supplies and be exposed to animal dander as well as animal handling of various species.

 

Job Duties:

 - Assist with patient care and treatment

- Discharge patients and review care instructions

- Monitor hospitalized pets / Monitor/aid in caring for animals after surgery

- Accurately scribe notes and client communication for doctors in exam rooms and compile treatment plans under doctor supervision

- Restrain animals during blood draws and nail trims

- Aiding with routine diagnostic tests (i.e. Taking radiographs, running bloodwork, reading fecal)

- Maintain & sterilize surgical instruments/equipment

- Clean/Disinfect cages, kennels, exam and treatment areas of hospital

- Administering medications under Veterinarian/Vet Tech supervision

- Feeding animals

- Answering phones

 

Job Requirements:

- Ability to stand for long periods of time and traverse stairs

- Ability to be move/lift/transport up to 40lbs

- Ability to work with exposure to animal dander, cleaning chemicals (supplied with PPE), and animal feces/urine

- High School Diploma or equivalent

- Fluent in english (reading and writing) and can clearly communicate with clients on the phone accurate care instructions

- Current Medical Clerk License

 

Qualifications:

- Minimum 1-2 years in the veterinary field

- Exotic Animal Handling

- Proven experience working in a team environment

 

Shift Availability:

- Full-Time (36hr-40hrs/week)

- Sunday to Thursday Availbility

*The base hourly range for this position is $19.00- $25.00. Our pay ranges are primarily determined by role, level, and location. The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
