Veterinary Extern - Specialty & Emergency

VetMED

Job Description

VetMED, a 24/7 emergency and specialty veterinary hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, has openings for veterinary student externs embarking on their clinical year. Our externships are designed with a focus on a single discipline, and students are encouraged to participate in patient rounds, interact with clients, create diagnostic and treatment plans, and scrub into surgery. You will gain real-world proficiency in emergency and specialty case management.

Program Overview:

Most of our student externs complete two- or four-week rotations. The typical schedule includes four 10–12-hour day shifts per week, but we can accommodate swings, overnights, and weekends for additional emergency case exposure. You will focus on one specialty, but you can follow your cases from start to finish across multiple services, as needed. Externs participate in morning rounds, see patients, communicate with clients, create treatment plans, and assist during procedures and surgeries.
