Creekside Animal Hospital is seeking a Lead Veterinary Technician to join our team of veterinary professionals who take pride in providing the highest level of compassionate care for our patients.

Job Summary

In addition to the responsibilities outlined below, the Lead Veterinary Technician is a member of the hospital team who works directly with the Hospital Manager, Managing Veterinarian, and supporting medical staff. This individual has oversight of the Veterinary Technician/Assistant staff to ensure productive and quality veterinary care at all times.

Job Responsibilities

· Performs all duties of a Veterinary Technician/RVT.

· Leads and mentors a team of Veterinary Technicians and Assistants while ensuring that policies and protocols are followed at all times.

· Delegates responsibilities to Veterinary Technicians and Assistants to ensure efficient use of scheduled staff at all times.

· Acts as a liaison between front office staff and the medical staff to ensure that questions and concerns are addressed in a timely manner.

· Oversees daily treatments and monitoring of hospitalized patients in accordance with hospital policy.

· Works collaboratively with veterinarians to ensure that all animals are being cared for properly and efficiently.

· Works collaboratively with all staff in organizing the medical team to ensure quality patient care and staff productivity, while maintaining a smooth flow of hospital operations.

· Manages client traffic, advocates for pets, educates clients on all aspects of pet health, and ensures a safe and effective hospital environment.

· Oversees daily surgery procedures and ensure that all surgery instruments and supplies are efficiently and properly cleaned and sterilized in a timely manner.

· Oversees controlled drug log books and ensure that medical supplies are adequately stocked.

· Assists Hospital Manager with the training of new employees, interns, and volunteers; preparation of department meetings and staff memos; scheduling for Veterinary Technician and Assistant staff.

· Provides regular communication and input to Hospital Manager to keep him/her informed about site situations, staff, intern, and volunteer concerns, continuing or developing employee performance issues, animal needs or issues, maintenance or supply needs, workload concerns etc.

Skills and Basic Qualifications

· Certification as a Veterinary Technician and or a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Veterinary Technician.

· A positive attitude and a high degree of energy, qualified candidates will have excellent communication skills, the ability to lead and motivate a team of Veterinary Technicians and Assistants, and work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment.

· Ability to effectively handle and control aggressive animals.

· Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in a veterinary clinic environment, including the use of euthanasia.

· Models a professional and courteous manner with staff and clients.

· Commitment to ongoing educational development and growth.

· Must have active listening, critical thinking, complex problem solving, time management, judgment and decision making skills.

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • A team player who loves caring for animals and is reliable, trustworthy, compassionate, and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable building strong relationships with clients; including obtaining an accurate and thorough history, reviewing prescribed medications, discussing treatment plans, and communicating discharge instructions
  • Values and enjoys creating a positive experience for both clients and patients
  • Skilled in surgical assisting, anesthetic monitoring and recovery, dental prophylaxis, and dental radiographs
  • Able to assist with in-house laboratory diagnostics, including blood analysis, urinalysis, digital radiology, cytology, etc.
  • Proficient in venipuncture and IV catheter placement
  • Experience working with Avimark management software is a plus
