Job Description

A veterinary technician at Lafayette Veterinary Care Center works under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian to provide healthcare and medical support to our client’s best furry friends. 

*** This is a daytime position. Team members are expected to work either Saturdays OR Sundays. There is a 20% pay increase for working weekends or any PM shifts.  

Pay starts at 12.00 with a 20% increase to 14.40

Key Responsibilities:

Animal Care:

  • Assist with physical examinations and gather medical history from animal owners. 

  • Collect and document vital signs, including temperature, heart rate, and respiratory rate. 

  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed.

Diagnostic Procedures:

  • Perform and assist with various diagnostic tests, such as blood work, urinalysis, and radiographs (X-rays).

  • Prepare and analyze laboratory samples.

Emergency Response:

  • Respond to emergencies and provide first aid to injured or critically ill pets.

  • Stabilize patients during trauma and administer life-saving treatments. 

Client Communication:

  • Educate and provide information to pet owners regarding care, medications, and treatment plans. 

Record Keeping:

  • Maintain detailed and accurate medical records for each patient.

  • Ensure compliance with documentation requirements.

Animal Restraint:

  • Safely restrain animals during exams, treatments, and procedures.

Surgical Assistance:

  • Prepare surgical suite and surgical instruments.

  • Assist veterinarians and other technicians during procedures.

  • Monitor pets before and after surgery, providing post-operative care. 

Cleaning and Sterilization:

  • Maintain a clean and sanitary environment
