JOB TITLE: Veterinary Technician  

DEPARTMENT: Clinical 

SUPERVISOR: Clinical operations manager

 

GENERAL PURPOSE: 

A Licensed/Credentialed Veterinary Technician for AVSE supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients. You will assist in providing patient care, assist with examinations, provide nursing care, and maintain patient medical records. (S)he must act in accordance with state guidelines, and maintain proper licensure and continued education credits at all times. 

 

Essential Job Functions: 

Responsible for upholding appropriate standards of care, in accordance with the medical standards set forth by the Medical Director, and assigned deparment.  

 

  • Review care plans and records, complete laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging. 
  • Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, and drugs. 
  • Demonstrate proper restraining of patients. 
  • Fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging and security of controlled drugs. 
  • Maintain a safe, secure, healthy and humane environment by following documented standards and procedures in compliance with applicable legal regulations. 
  • Maintain medical records by documenting patients’ conditions, reactions, and changes; updates database in an accurate and timely manner. 
  • Proficient in catheter placement, phlebotomy, drug administration and digital radiology. 
  • Advanced skill in sedation, anesthesia, and monitoring

Surgery Services 

  • Demonstrate proficient skill and knowledge of the scope of practice for a credentialed technician in the state of Georgia
  • Knowledge of advanced medical mathematics
  • Skills in anesthetic crisis managment
  • Minimum of 2 years as veterinary technician in surgical setting preferred
  • Proven experience in pre/intra/post- operative care
  • Strong knowledge of verterinary pharmacology and pain management
  • BLS/ALS requested but not required

 

Qualifications:

  • CVT, LVT, RVT, LVMT REQUIRED
  • Ability to lift/move 50lbs 
  • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors. 
  • Must be flexible with scheduling and able to work some weekends and holidays
