Job Description

NVA-MASS-EQUINE-LOGO-Rectangle

Massachusetts Equine Clinic is a full-service equine ambulatory clinic with haul-in capacity that caters to all disciplines. We are seeking an intern/new grad with possibility of associate position after completion of internship.

The clinic is located within commuting distance to Boston and Providence. We have a well-established internship program designed to suit the ambitions of our interns. Whether your interests are reproductive, general care or sports medicine we have the caseload that will get you the experience you need. Our goal is to support you while providing the challenges to help you grow as an individual and a veterinarian. With our mentorship, you will have the opportunity to become a well-rounded veterinarian, ready for all aspects of equine care. We have an excellent support staff that will help you navigate through all the routine matters, such as learning the office software, assisting on the road and with in-clinic patients.

You will receive a hands-on experience that includes everything a sports medicine focused general practice has to offer, with the opportunity to see a varied clientele. The caseload is approximately 9500 horses per year, including all types of equids from backyard companions including donkeys, to upper-level competition horses.

A typical day will include readying the vehicle for the road, seeing 4-8 appointments ranging from routine care and vaccines, sick appointments and lameness exams.  We have all the equipment, such as digital radiography, the latest ultrasounds and gastroscopes. Become familiar with IRAP, Pro-Stride and Alpha 2EQ while learning all the necessary skills to become a well-rounded practitioner, such as power-floating, treating tough medical cases, diagnosing and treating lameness, colic workups, and suturing lacerations.  Plan to see some reproductive cases in the spring and early summer.  We look forward to creating a well-rounded experience for you.  We want you to be comfortable and to succeed. You will have access to over sixty years of combined experience ready to mentor you.  Be prepared for 40-hour work-weeks, one night of on-call during the week, and two weekends of on-call per month once you're ready.  No Saturday appointments, or weekend treatments, so when you're off for the weekend, you are off to explore the best New England has to offer.

Upon completion of this internship program, you will be well-prepared to enter either private practice or a residency program. Better yet, you will have seen how to practice sustainably.

If you're looking for a practice that knows how to balance hard work with family life and out of work ambitions, then this is the practice for you.
