Licensed Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant - Emergency

$2,500-$5,000 Signing Bonus depending on experience + night and weekend shift differential pay

Compensation:

  • Range is $21-$48 DOE, commensurate with experience
  • $4.50 Shift Differential/Weekend Differential Available

WHO ARE WE? NVS is a 24/7 veterinary specialty and emergency hospital. We are located in a recently expanded 24,000 square foot hospital with digital radiography, computed tomography (CT), on-site magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, endoscopy, access to an on-site commercial laboratory, and more. Position Responsibilities: 

  • Determines levels of triage for ER patients
  • Obtains history and puts history into electronic patient care system (EzyVet) 
  • Assists veterinarian in all aspects of care 
  • Restraint for physical examination, discussing estimate and plan with clients, carrying out diagnostics, procedures, and medication administration 
  • Patient diagnostics, procedures and treatment may include: IV catheter placement, blood work, urinalysis, radiographs, CT scans, CPR, sedation, anesthesia, medication administration (SQ, IM, IV routes of administration), medication dose calculation, knowledge of medication adverse effects 
  • Advanced skill set includes (preferred, not required): central line placement, abdominocentesis, thoracocentesis, feeding tube placement, urinary catheter placement 
  • Discharges patients including filling medication prescriptions, ensuring diagnostics and medications are complete, educating clients on at-home care, going over discharge instructions with clients

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Have at least 3+ year(s) of veterinary hospital experience
  • Highly skilled in veterinary triage, diagnostics, and nursing
  • Must have strong veterinary medical knowledge and a detailed understanding of common disease processes and pharmacology
  • Must be able to perform quick and efficient diagnostics, treatment, and procedures 
  • Must be exemplary in customer service, critical thinking, team-oriented attitude

The employee is often required to lift and carry animals weighing fifty pounds or more; handle dogs weighing up to 150 pounds.
