Join Our Surgery/Anesthesia Team as a Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician!
Nashville Veterinary Specialists + Animal Emergency is seeking a meticulous and experienced LVMT, CVT, LVT, RVT to oversee all aspects of anesthetic and sedated procedures. This pivotal role demands a detail-oriented individual who excels under pressure and thrives in a collaborative team environment.
Anticipated Schedule:
- Four 10-hour shifts
- Rotating on-call
Compensation:
- $21 - $38 pending skills level assessment
Training: Completion of anesthesia training through NVS. Technicians will need to pass both written and practical exams.
Position Responsibilities:
- Manage intake of daily procedures and client communication
- Develop tailored anesthetic and sedative protocols for each patient
- Calculate and prepare medications for procedures
- Perform venipuncture and run lab work
- Induce and maintain anesthesia, troubleshoot complications
- Oversee anesthetic recovery and assist in ICU care
- Ensure efficient flow of cases throughout the day
- Assist in other surgical tasks and provide support to colleagues
- Participate in anesthesia rotation and on-call responsibilities
About You:

- You are a confident, skilled, Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT)
- You are proficient in anesthetic monitoring, understanding of drug dosages and calculations, and knowledge of radiographic techniques is preferred.

Qualifications:
- LVMT, CVT, LVT, or RVT licensure
- Minimum 1+ years of veterinary hospital experience
- Have a reasonably in-depth understanding of veterinary medicine and basic disease processes
- Have broad technical abilities (Phlebotomy, catheterization, patient restraint, radiographs, in-house lab, pharmacology, medication/fluid/oxygen administration, etc.)

Job Summary: To ensure daily flow of all anesthetic and sedated procedures. This is a licensed technician position, preferably with 2 years minimum technical experience. See tasks for details. This person needs to be very detail-oriented, perform well under stress, and thrive in a team-minded environment.
Position Responsibilities:
- Intake of daily procedures / drop-offs
- Client communication in morning and throughout the day
- Formulate anesthetic and sedative protocols tailored to each patient
- Calculate and pull up medications for anesthetic and sedated procedures
- Place IVC, start IVF when needed
- Venipuncture and running lab work on in-house equipment
- Induction and maintenance of anesthesia
- Troubleshoot complications with patient and equipment during perioperative period
- Anesthetic recovery, rounding recovery technician and ICU technician
- Prepare later cases and flow efficiently through cases throughout the day reducing the gap time between procedures
- Work with co-workers to ensure lunches for staff
- Aid in receiving with sedated procedures as needed
- Perform radiographs with proper protocols and send off for radiologist review as needed
- Perform CT scans with proper protocols and send off for radiologist review as needed
- Discuss with surgeon about post-op medications needed for patient in-hospital and to go home
- Fill prescriptions, call in to outside pharmacies as needed
- Complete invoices accurately
- Complete other paperwork regarding surgeries: surgery report, patient update, surgery summary
- Complete requisitions and submission for biopsy, culture, and stone analysis
- Restock and clean all areas of surgery department daily
- Replace sodasorb in all anesthesia machines weekly
- Assist pack/prep staff as needed, including shave patients for surgical prep as needed, Sterile surgical prep as needed, cleaning instruments, packing instruments, running autoclaves and gas sterilizer, pulling instruments
- Other misc. tasks within the surgery department
- Will participate in anesthesia rotation of weekend and weeknight on call responsibilities
- Will have opportunities to learn advanced nursing skills after haven proved to perform all other anesthesia, recovery, and receiving duties to meet expectations
- When able, assist in training other staff members in anesthesia/surgery (externs, interns, new hires)
