Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital of West Toronto is seeking a Medical Director to join our team.
About us: We are an established 24-hour emergency and referral practice in West Toronto. Our large purpose-renovated facility is growing and in the process of adding additional specialty services to better serve our community.
Our hospital: Our spacious, 9,000+ square ft, state-of-the-art facility offers a wide variety of emergency and surgical veterinary services. Our equipment includes: IDEXX in-house analyzers, multi-parameter monitoring equipment, digital x-ray, ultrasound and we will be adding a CT in the near future.
Located near major highways, shopping malls, restaurants, and less than 30 minutes to the Toronto city centre core.
Position Overview: We are seeking a Medical Director to lead our team of Veterinary Specialists, Emergency Veterinarians, and Support Staff. The Medical Director will be responsible for overseeing medical policies, team development, recruiting, business management, communication, and regulatory compliance. The role will be a mix of 2.5 clinical shifts per week and the balance dedicated to administrative hours. 40 hours total per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Medical Leadership: Develop and maintain medical policies, support patient safety initiatives, and participate in teaching rounds and continuing education.
- Team Development: Collaborate on the hospital’s strategic vision, manage scheduling, mentor the DVM team, and participate in team engagement and retention efforts.
- Recruiting: Lead the interview process for DVM candidates and ensure an exceptional candidate experience.
- Business Management: Review financial performance, participate in pricing discussions, and contribute to business outreach and development.
- Communication: Address client and referring veterinarian complaints, coach the team on superior client communication, and ensure compliance with medical records standards.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain hospital DEA license, ensure controlled drug policy compliance, and uphold Federal, Provincial, and Local regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
· DVM degree or equivalent and 3- 5 years of clinical experience, emergency veterinarians or veterinary specialists.
