*Previous Technician Experience Required*
At Underwood Animal Clinic, the Veterinary Technician is the Veterinarians primary support. They assist in pet restraint, treatment, venous puncture and access, lab work, procedures, pre and post op surgical prep and care, nursing care and triage/discharge of patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General:
· Follow the Hospitals established policies and procedures.
· Provide compassionate care to patients and clients.
· Conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner.
· Field questions and inquires about services, triage, and products.
· Provide knowledgeable advice concerning the care and treatment of animals.
· Know common drugs and protocols and be able to explain them.
· Document legibly and keep accurate medical records in accordance hospital policy.
· Maintain positive, cooperative relationships with supervisor and other employees.
· Prep and assist veterinarian in all procedures.
· Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
· Calculate and administer medications and fluids.
· Administer and monitor anesthesia and effects of anesthetic on patient post op.
· Perform venous punctures and place IV catheters.
· Perform dentals.
· Triage all pets upon arrival into facility, coordinating immediate care for all emergencies.
· Take all radiographs as directed by doctor
· Treat and care for all animals retained within the hospital, rounding several times while on shift.
· Assist veterinarian in rooms, interacting with patient and clients.
· Prepare vaccinations/tests/samples for all appointments.
· Document all medical information as dictated by veterinarian
· Enter all pertinent charges
· Discharge all clients providing preventative, home care and prescription information.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Previous veterinary on-the-job training.
• Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology or CVT preferred
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
• Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence, and memos. Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Calculate mg/kgs and lbs into kgs.
• Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current certification as a veterinary technician preferred.
