Accounting Manager, Corporate Accounting

Ethos Veterinary Health

Job Description

Do you love animals and the people who love them?  Are you passionate about joining an organization with a clear and inspired purpose?  Make your love of pets into the career of a life time.

In 2023, it was announced that National Veterinary Associates will form two distinct businesses:  NVA, which will continue to oversee approximately 1,400 premier general practice veterinary hospitals in addition to equine hospitals and pet resorts, and Ethos Veterinary Health (“Ethos”), which will consist of 145 world-class specialty and emergency veterinary hospitals with a shared vision of revolutionizing veterinary medicine.  With a focus on innovation, world-class medicine, and unparalleled care, Ethos brings hope to pets and people during their times of greatest need.

We are looking for an Accounting Manager to join us as we build a world-class Controllership function to support Ethos as it becomes an independent company and implements various corporate maturity initiatives that may one day support an IPO process.

Job Summary:

The Accounting Manager, Corporate Accounting, will be a key member of the Controllership team and will report to the Director of Accounting.  This role will be instrumental in the further development of an accounting function for Ethos as we work through the post go live of a new ERP (Oracle), develop a full financial analysis and process separate from NVA, and implement new Corporate Accounting policies and controls.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day Corporate Accounting activities, including overseeing significant journal entries and reconciliations and corporate accounting activities.
  • Manage the Corporate Accounting team of 3 accountants
  • Identify, design, and document preferred Corporate Accounting policies and procedures for the Ethos business and align across legacy business units.
  • Support the implementation of internal controls over the Corporate Accounting process.
  • Establish strong working relationships cross-functionally, including Accounting Operations, Finance, Legal, Human Resources, Marketing and Field Operations.
  • Support the implementation of new HRIS (Ceridian Dayforce) systems.
  • Support the company’s various corporate maturity initiatives and other projects, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or similar field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of accounting or finance experience, including at least 2 years of public accounting.  The ideal candidate will have a mix of public accounting and industry experience.
  • Experience working with an ERP system is required; Oracle experience is a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial, process-oriented, and strategic-thinking mindset.  Ability to thrive in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment.
  • The position is remote but will require occasional travel to offices and sites within the US (10-15%).

Critical Competencies for Success in Role:

  • This is a transformational role, which will be tasked with integrating and aligning the practices, policies, processes, and procedures for four legacy groups of hospitals that were individually acquired by NVA.  This requires the ability to critically analyze ways of working, identify best-practice, and then partner cross-functionally to implement.  The ideal candidate will be comfortable working through ambiguity and identifying best practices both internally and externally to the organization.  This is a ‘hands-on’ role which will require resolving operational issues, but also with a strategic element focus on supporting the build-out of Ethos’ Corporate Accounting function.
  • Ethos is in the midst of a multi-year project to mature its support center functions to the level of an independent company that is subject to requirements for public companies.  The ideal candidate will have experience working in a public company environment.
