Job Description

Twin Maples is looking for a kennel assistant to care for our patients who board with us. Kennel assistants are responsible for providing a clean, efficient and healthy environment for the animals being treated or boarded at our hospital. Outside of caring for our boarders, they are responsible for janitorial duties around the hospital as well as some ground maintenance.

 

Some kennel assistant duties include:

·       --Walking/feeding/caring for boarders

·       -- Monitor and record important information in our computer software about the animals’ conditions, behavior, and habits (elimination, eating, etc.) during their stay. -----This includes being able to read animal body language and be able to respond appropriately.

·       --Bathe and dry boarder and surgical patients.

·       --Maintain laundry throughout the day and keep laundry area neat.

·       --Maintain our standard of care for floor care.

·       --Monitor and maintain kennel inventory which includes food, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, etc.

 

Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, as well as manipulate (lift, carry, and move) up to 50 pounds, and over 50 pounds with a co-worker.
  • Endure sitting, standing and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to be confident around pets.
  • Able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high.
  • Fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to perform successfully the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position.
  • Must be able to confidently communicate with RVT and DVM regarding patient status while in our hospital.

Our part-time kennel position work evenings during the week from 3pm-6:30 or 3pm-7:30, depending on the day. Our part-time assistants must be available for weekend hours, those are split shifts starting at 7:30am-12pm and 3:00p-5:30pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Holidays are on a rotation, so holidays are required with holiday pay.
