 Summary: 

The Lead Network Engineer leads the Network Operations Team in network design initiatives, new technology implementation, compliance audits, and advanced operational support of a diverse network supporting over 150 Veterinary Hospitals across the continental U.S.


This position will play a lead and vital role in Ethos’s Network Operation functionality across a complex and disparate network infrastructure environment spanning numerous sites and multiple legacy organizations. Leveraging their academic and experiential knowledge and skills, the role will success of the Network Team while strategically collaborating with Infrastructure and System Architects, and IT management to evaluate organizational and department objectives and offer solutions.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and coach junior engineers; and foster a culture of innovation and collaboration within the technology infrastructure organization. 
  • Provide lead advanced technical support and guidance for the Company and Network Team as it pertains to Network Engineering
  • Plans, designs, implements, monitors, and maintains the operational health of the local and wide area networks
  • Defines, evaluates, and approves design and/or configuration changes
  • Installs, configures, and supports networking and security equipment from a wide range of industry leading vendors including Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, etc.
  • Interfaces with other IT leaders as the subject matter expert networking resource; to assess, recommend, project plan, and implement network solutions in support of business initiatives
  • Proactively monitors and reports on overall network service performance and takes action to correct deficiencies in monitoring and controlling the quality of individual network services
  • Create, updates, and maintains technical documentation including network design diagrams, operational procedures, knowledgebase documents, disaster recovery plans and training documentation
  • Participates in a 24x7 on-call support rotation and provides highest level escalation expertise for network operations trouble resolution
  • Adept at presenting technical designs, solutions, network health and purchase proposals to an audience of varying technical knowledge up to and including the Chief Information Officer
  • Acts as the Architectural lead for complex network engineering initiatives
  • Provides accurate, meaningful updates on projects, change control requests, and operational issues in the environment

Education, License and Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field or 15+ years of equivalent proven working experience in the field
  • Minimum 7 years of network administration experience responsible for a Enterprise WAN/LAN environment of at least 300 nodes
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Network infrastructure architecture, design, and implementation, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Individual must live in North America.
  • Individual must be willing to travel as necessary (up to 25%) to training, team meetings, and as projects require.
  • Individual must have a personal work location that allows for uninterrupted audio and video calls.
  • Individual’s personal work location must have consistent and reliable Internet connectivity.
  • BS in Information Technology or related field or equivalent proven working experience in the field
  • Relevant IT industry certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CCNE, CCIE)

Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience leading a Network Operations Team
  • Proven experience leading Network Architecture and Design
  • Experience with current orchestration and automation technologies.
  • Proven experience in supporting acquisitions, integrations, and divestitures, ensuring alignment and integration of technology infrastructure solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with various network infrastructure platforms, tools, and frameworks, such as Palo Alto, Cisco, Meraki, Aruba, Azure Networking, Firemon, ISE, etc.
  • Expert level experience configuring and troubleshooting routers and switches
  • Expert level experience in advanced firewall management 
  • Extensive experience supporting Cisco corporate and public Wi-Fi
  • Demonstrable experience reading packet sniffer traces and debugging application conversations
  • Demonstrable experience troubleshooting bandwidth utilization alarms and recommending solutions
  • Experience with VoIP configuration and troubleshooting
  • Ability to work concurrently on multiple tasks and projects
  • Strong written and oral communications skills with the ability to effectively communicate the progress of problems and projects
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and project management skills

  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate effectively with senior management and stakeholders.

  • Certifications in relevant technology infrastructure and architecture domains are preferred but not required.
  • Healthcare industry experience, veterinary or human, is preferred but not required.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $140,000 - $160,000. Our salary ranges are primarily determined by role, level, and location. The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The Company offers competitive compensation along with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision benefits, vacation, sick leave, 401(k), and more depending on location.
