Veterinary Technician Job Description 
Day Shift (6:30am – 5:00pm; 9:00am-7pm; 10:00am – 8:00pm) 

Emergency Shift (4:00pm-12:00am; 8:00pm-6:00am; 6:30pm-12:00am; 12:00am-6:30am; 6:30pm-6:30am) 

4-5 Shifts/Week

Required for this position: The ability to: follow directions with and without supervision; lift objects or pets of at least 50lbs; control large, anxious, or frightened pets; recognize certain behaviors in animals; admit or ask questions  when a task is unclear; delegate tasks to other staff members; adapt to the different needs and styles of technicians and doctors; to spell, alphabetize, and perform basic mathematics; as well as provide exceptional customer service and compassionate patient care. 

Job duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Animal Care and Treatment – maintaining safety protocols while handling and restraining animals; feeding; walking; cleaning up after patients; answering calls for assistance made by doctors and technicians; take radiographs; run lab work; assist doctors in exams; phlebotomy; IV catheter placement; administer medications, treatments and therapies; monitor patients under anesthesia and assist doctors during major surgical procedures (orthopedic, exploratory, etc.) as well as minor procedure (dentals, spay, neuter, etc); bathing patients; and always maintaining a high standard of patient care. 

  • Customer Service – answering calls for assistance made by receptionists; taking and passing messages on to appropriate team member; basic knowledge of computer systems; assisting clients with large pets or multiple purchases; quickly and efficiently assist clients with dropping off and picking up their pets; maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the hospital; assisting clients, within the limits of our hospital policies, in whatever capacity necessary to maintain quality client relationships. 

  • Hospital Cleanliness – vacuuming; mopping; changing garbage; dusting; stocking treatment room; daily cleaning of treatment room and various procedure rooms; following daily-weekly-monthly task lists; laundry; treatment, kennel cleaning and upkeep; maintaining cleaning supplies; cleaning and upkeep of treatment area doors, surgery/recovery room, reception area, waiting room, and hospital grounds; using time wisely and productively – there is always some area of the hospital that would benefit from your attention. 

The job description may change depending on the needs of the hospital. By assisting the vet assistants, doctors, and receptionists, we can maintain the high standard of care we have set for our patients.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time 

Pay: $14.00 - $18.00 per hour 

Expected hours: 40 per week

Education: 

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred) 

Experience: 

  • Veterinary Technician: 1 year (Required) 

License/Certification: 

  • RVT or CVT license (Preferred)
