Manager, Regional Operations (Algonquin Region)

Job Description

We are on the lookout for a self-driven, influential Manager of Regional Operations (MRO) for our Algonquin Division that maintains and embodies a servant leadership approach.


Reporting to the Division Leader, we are seeking an experienced, strategic and result-driven leader to oversee veterinary hospitals within your assigned region, advising on best practices and influencing the adoption of NVA Canada initiatives and standardized protocols to ensure consistent, high-quality patient care.


The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business management, team leadership, and client experience who can effectively communicate organizational goals and support the professional development of the hospital teams. This role requires a critical partnership between the hospital leadership team and the NVA Canada Support Centre team (CSC), understanding how to partner and leverage various CSC departments. The successful candidate will build and maintain high-trust relationships with the hospital leadership team. They will advise on strategic initiatives, drive excellence in clinic operations, optimize financial performance, thrive in a rapidly changing environment, and ensure the highest standards of care for pets and their owners.


The Manager of Regional Operations will be responsible for spending time in the field with hospital leadership and hospital staff. This individual will work directly with veterinary practices to improve processes and profitability and must be located in Ontario, Canada, willing to travel regionally up to 50% of the time.


What you will do: 

 

Hospital Operations & Client Relations

o   Partner directly with Hospital Leadership to advise on best practices to improve operational efficiency, including workflow optimization and resource allocation.

o   Influence the adoption of standardized protocols and procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality patient care across all hospitals.

o   Oversee the implementation of compliance standards, ensuring all hospitals adhere to regulatory and safety requirements.

o   Create realistic “stretch” targets for revenue, labour, COGS, and other expenses.

o   Perform monthly P&L reviews with each hospital location to assess financial results against the hospital’s business objectives and create action plans to address negative variances.

o   Maintain a strong presence within the region by communicating frequently with each hospital and through physical visits.

o   Provide Hospital Managers with support and leadership on clinic initiatives such as quarterly business focuses, community activities, and other such activities.

o   Ensure exceptional client service standards are consistently maintained, fostering trust and loyalty amongst pet owners.

o   Recruit, train and mentor Hospital Managers and staff to build high-performing teams and increase retention.


Leadership

o   Lead a team of Hospital Managers and Managing Veterinarians, fostering collaboration in a motivated environment to drive performance and growth.

o   Promote a culture of continual improvement and innovation, encouraging teams to identify and share ideas.

o   Partner with hospital leadership on goals and strategies, ensuring alignment and understanding across the NVA Canada community.

o   Effectively manage and address workplace conflict, performance issues, and team dynamic concerns.

o   Mentor and coach Hospital Managers and staff, providing guidance and support to develop their professional skills and career growth.

o   Assist Hospital Managers in revenue growth strategies to increase average bill, attract new clients, retain existing clients, and re-engage elapsed clients.

o   Review labour and scheduling with Hospital Managers regularly to achieve labour targets.


Financial Management

o   Analyze financial health and metrics of hospitals to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement in hospital performance.

o   Assist with the planning and communication of financial plans and budgets, ensuring all hospitals meet their financial targets and maintain fiscal responsibility.

o   Monitor revenue streams and expenses, making strategic adjustments to maximize profitability and sustainability.

o   Advise Hospital Managers on financial best practices, including cost control measures and revenue enhancement strategies.


What you bring:

o   You have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

o   Minimum of 5 years' experience in a regional management role, supporting multi-site operations.

o   A driven and action-oriented individual with a strong work ethic, approaching each situation with energy and enthusiasm.

o   You have high standards and expectations and lead by example in performance enablement.

o   You are a strong communicator, able to draw people in with your compelling verbal and written communications.

o   You are a critical thinker who connects the dots and helps people understand the impact of various decisions.

o   Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets and P&L statements.

o   You have a go-getter mentality and a strong ability to work autonomously.

o   You are a solid influencer and negotiator with the ability to handle conflict in a timely manner.

o   Experience in healthcare management or veterinary practice.

o   Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, M65, and Excel.
