Job Description

The Veterinary Technician provides skilled nursing care, technical support, and compassionate service to patients and clients in a small-animal veterinary hospital. This role supports veterinarians in medical, surgical, and dental procedures while maintaining a safe and efficient clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care
    • Assist veterinarians in examining, diagnosing, and treating dogs and cats.
    • Monitor patient vital signs during anesthesia, surgery, recovery, and hospitalization.
    • Administer medications, vaccines, treatments, and prescribed therapies.
    • Perform routine nursing care, including catheter placement, bandaging, fluid therapy, and wound care.
  • Diagnostics & Laboratory
    • Collect and process laboratory samples (blood, urine, feces, cytology).
    • Run in-house diagnostic equipment and prepare samples for outside laboratories.
    • Perform radiographs safely and accurately, following safety protocols.
  • Client Communication & Education
    • Communicate effectively with clients regarding patient status, home care, and preventive care.
    • Demonstrate and explain medication administration, post-op instructions, and general pet care.
  • Hospital Operations
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, treatment areas, kennels, and equipment.
    • Stock supplies and assist with inventory management.
    • Ensure compliance with safety and infection-control protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT) preferred but not required; on-the-job trained technicians with experience considered.
  • Strong animal-handling skills for both dogs and cats.
  • Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, pharmacology, and clinical procedures.
  • Compassion, teamwork, and strong communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs unassisted. 

Ability to handle animals of varying sizes and temperaments safely. 

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work on feet for extended periods.

Individual pay ranges are primarily determined by job-related skills, prior experience, and relevant education and credentials.
