Registered Veterinary Technician

This individual will be a direct report for the technician team and will be responsible for several tasks including to help ensure the hospital is running to the best of its ability. These tasks include, but are not limited to:

·         Staff scheduling

·         Hold monthly staff meetings

·         Training team members

·         Performing difficult conversations and formally documenting employees if needed.

·         Ensuring all hospital policies and protocols are being followed.

·         Delegating tasks and following up to be sure those tasks are being completed appropriately.

This individual will also apply their medical nursing knowledge attained through hands-on experience and formal education to assist veterinarians in a clinical setting, providing support for a variety of animal health care needs. Prepares treatment room for examination of animals, and holds or restrains animals during examination, treatment, or inoculation. Administers injections, performs venipunctures, applies wound dressings, cleans teeth, and takes vital signs of animals. Prepares patient, medications, and equipment for surgery, and hands instruments and materials to veterinarian during surgical procedures. Performs routine laboratory tests and monitors anesthesia.  

Job Requirements

·         This job requires at least 5 years of experience as an RVT

·         An employee in this position must have a sense of caring for animals, be able to lift approximately 50 pounds, walk dogs of up to 130 pounds.

Skills and Basic Qualifications

·         Excellent communication and leadership skills

·         The ability to multitask and work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment.

·         Ability to effectively handle and control aggressive animals.

·         Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in a veterinary clinic environment, including the use of euthanasia.

·         Models a professional and courteous manner with staff and clients.

·         Commitment to ongoing educational development and growth.

·         Must have active listening, critical thinking, complex problem solving, time management, judgment and decision making skills.

·         Full time availability with some weekend availability.

Compensation start rate is $31-$34/hour. This position will have a 90 day probationary period for training during which pay will be $26/hour.
