Equine & Farm Animal Veterinarian

McKinlay & Peters Equine Hospital

Job Description

Washington & Idaho

McKinlay & Peters Equine Hospital is seeking a motivated, team-oriented veterinarian to join our progressive, multi-doctor practice serving eastern Washington and north Idaho. Our group has built a strong reputation in equine medicine, surgery, and performance horse care—and we’re now expanding our services to better support the broader agricultural community. This is an exciting opportunity to help grow the mixed large animal portion of our practice and shape the future of our field service offerings.

The Position

This role is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys variety and the opportunity to work with a diverse caseload—balancing equine medicine with cattle, small ruminant, and camelid work. You’ll be supported by experienced colleagues, skilled technicians, and well-equipped ambulatory vehicles stocked with digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, shockwave, and dental equipment.

The schedule includes four weekdays with shared emergency coverage (rotating nights, weekends, and holidays). Emergency cases are primarily equine, but we welcome and encourage the growth of farm animal emergency services as well.

We’re looking for someone who’s eager to be part of a growing mixed practice, provide exceptional on-farm and in-hospital care, and build long-term relationships with clients throughout our vibrant rural community.

Our Patients Include:

  • Performance and pleasure horses of all disciplines
  • Backyard companions, breeding operations, and small farms
  • Expanding caseload of cattle, small ruminants, camelids, and other livestock

Our Facilities & Equipment

  • Full-service equine hospital with surgical suite and hospitalization capabilities
  • In-house laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, and MRI
  • Ambulatory units equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment tools
  • Collaboration with board-certified specialists in surgery and internal medicine
  • Dedicated and experienced support staff committed to patient care and teamwork

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary with production-based incentives
  • Paid time off (PTO) and continuing education allowance
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match
  • Discounted veterinary services (equine and farm animal)
  • Company vehicle, phone, and equipment
  • Paid licensure, professional dues, and liability coverage
  • Supportive mentorship and opportunities for professional growth

Requirements

  • DVM/VMD degree (or equivalent)
  • Eligibility for veterinary licensure in Washington and Idaho
  • Interest or experience in both equine and farm animal medicine
  • Enthusiasm for community engagement and practice development
  • Willingness to participate in shared emergency rotation

If you’re passionate about equine and large animal medicine, eager to help expand farm animal services, and ready to grow your career in a collaborative and community-focused environment, we’d love to hear from you!
