Sea Island Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Lead Veterinary Technician to help guide, support, and elevate our technician and assistant team. This is a hands-on leadership role for a confident, compassionate technician who enjoys mentoring others, maintaining high medical standards, and collaborating closely with hospital leadership.

About Sea Island Animal Hospital

Our hospital includes:

· 7 veterinarians

· Newly remodeled surgical and dental suits

· Full IDEXX in-house laboratory

· Digital radiology & digital dental radiology

· Ultrasound, oxygen cage, and advanced anesthesia monitoring

We operate under clearly defined team agreements, reviewed regularly to ensure we are maintaining a strong culture and aligned expectations.

About the Role: Lead Veterinary Technician

The Lead Veterinary Technician is responsible for performing daily technician duties while also overseeing and supporting the technician and assistant team. This role serves as a key bridge between the medical staff and hospital leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

· Perform routine veterinary technician duties across the hospital

· Oversee technicians and assistants on a daily basis

· Lead by example in patient care, professionalism, and teamwork

· Conduct routine technician check-ins and performance reviews

· Assist with disciplinary actions when needed

· Lead quarterly technician meetings

· Communicate protocol updates and medical workflow changes to the tech team

· Support onboarding and training of new staff

· Assist with scheduling and coverage coordination

· Collaborate closely with:

o Medical Director

o Hospital Manager

o Other department and team leads

Who We’re Looking For

· Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT) strongly preferred

· 3–5+ years of experience as a veterinary technician

· At least 1 year of prior leadership or supervisory experience

· Strong understanding of:

o Hospital workflows

o Technician utilization

o Fear-free handling and patient care

· Excellent communication skills across varying personalities

· Proven conflict resolution and coaching abilities

· Experience with staff scheduling and workflow management

· Organized, accountable, and emotionally intelligent

· Passionate about mentoring and developing others

This role requires both technical excellence and strong people leadership.

Schedule & Compensation

· Full-time: 35–40 hours per week

· Typically, 4 ten-hour shifts

· Rotating Saturdays as part of the leadership team

· Starting at $25/hour, with higher compensation based on experience

· $2,000 sign-on bonus

· No overnights or holidays
