Pay: $16–$20 per hour (based on experience)

Position Overview

The Veterinary Assistant is a vital part of our hospital and serves as primary support for the entire veterinary team. This role assists across all departments to ensure excellent patient care and outstanding client service. Veterinary Assistants play a hands-on role in daily operations and help maintain a clean, efficient, and compassionate hospital environment.

Essential Job Duties

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment

  • Monitor hospitalized pets and provide post-operative care

  • Restrain animals for procedures such as blood draws and nail trims

  • Aid in routine diagnostic testing (radiographs, bloodwork, fecal testing)

  • Administer medications under veterinarian or veterinary technician supervision

  • Maintain, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment

  • Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, exam rooms, and treatment areas

  • Maintain inventory and stock supplies

  • Feed and bathe animals as needed

  • Answer phones and provide excellent customer service

  • Assist clients with their pets and answer basic questions

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to work well with all levels of hospital staff

  • Genuine compassion for animals and the ability to work with pets that may be stressed, ill, or in pain

  • Preferred 1+ year of veterinary or animal-handling experience (not required)

  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including lifting, carrying, and restraining animals

    • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs independently (assistance provided for animals over 40 lbs)

  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and frequently bend, squat, or kneel
