Starch Pet Hospital and University West Pet Clinic are seeking a Multi-Site Assistant Hospital Manager to join our fast-paced, collaborative nine-doctor practice.

Job Summary

The Multi-Site Assistant Hospital Manager is a co-leader and integral member of the hospital management team. In partnership with the Hospital Manager and Managing Veterinarian, this role supports smooth, efficient, and profitable hospital operations while fostering a culture of high-quality patient care and exceptional client service.

This position helps drive day-to-day operations across both locations and assumes managerial responsibility in the Hospital Manager’s absence. The Assistant Manager plays a key role in leadership, planning, people management, client experience, and financial oversight.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Planning

  • Partner with the Hospital Manager to support strategic planning, budgeting, and hospital goals
  • Act as a champion for best practices, identifying opportunities for improvement and consistency across sites
  • Create and manage staff schedules while monitoring labor costs
  • Support initiatives related to team development, DVM hiring and retention, and hospital growth

Hospital Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including scheduling, inventory management, invoice processing, and workflow support
  • Lead technician and receptionist support teams, stepping in on the floor as needed
  • Support compliance efforts including DEA, OSHA, licensing tracking, and AAHA accreditation
  • Utilize practice management systems to run reports, support payroll, and maintain operational efficiency

People Management

  • Partner with hospital leadership on hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and disciplinary actions
  • Provide daily leadership and support to team members, fostering collaboration and accountability
  • Help develop learning and development opportunities that support retention and growth

Client Service

  • Demonstrate and reinforce exceptional client service standards
  • Address and resolve client concerns or escalations in a professional, fair, and compassionate manner
  • Support front desk operations and client communication when needed

Financial Support

  • Assist with payroll processing, accounts receivable, and cash handling
  • Oversee inventory control and support cost management initiatives
  • Participate in financial reporting, budgeting, and annual pricing reviews

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher preferred
  • Previous supervisory or management experience required
  • Experience in a veterinary or healthcare setting preferred
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician preferred but not required
  • Proficiency with Avimark strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, remain flexible, and manage competing priorities
  • Willingness to learn financial and data analysis
