Enterprise Solutions Architect

Ethos Veterinary Health

Job Description

Job Summary:
The Enterprise Solutions Architect is responsible for developing, governing, and advancing enterprise IT architecture standards and end-to-end infrastructure designs across Ethos Veterinary Health. This role leads architecture planning for construction, operational escalations, integrations, and enterprise technology initiatives while ensuring solutions are aligned to approved standards, security expectations, operational support models, and business needs.

The role owns standards evolution through the Architecture Review Board, reviews SME-authored technical designs, produces complete architecture design plans, supports procurement-ready TCO and SOW development, and partners closely with Engineering, Operations, Security, Field Services, Construction, Procurement, vendors, and IT leadership. It also works in partnership with technical SMEs and IT leadership on annual roadmap planning.

This position requires a senior technical leader who can independently drive clarity across complex projects, reduce architecture variation, improve implementation readiness, and ensure Ethos technology solutions are scalable, supportable, secure, and aligned to enterprise direction.

Responsibilities:

Construction Project Architecture Design, Stakeholder Alignment, and Procurement Readiness
  • Lead IT architecture discovery, planning, and design for construction projects, expansions, remodels, relocations, acquisitions, integrations, and operational escalations.
  • Produce complete IT Architecture Design Plans covering all applicable technology layers, including circuits, network infrastructure, wireless, voice, server, endpoint, security dependencies, physical connectivity, low-voltage coordination, cloud services, identity, monitoring, supportability, and operational handoff requirements.
  • Ensure architecture designs are completed, reviewed, and approved before construction start, deployment start, procurement execution, or field implementation.
  • Partner with Construction, Project Management, Field Services, Security, Operations, Engineering, vendors, Procurement, IT leadership, and business stakeholders to validate requirements, secure approvals, and resolve design gaps early.
  • Produce or coordinate procurement-ready TCOs, equipment SOWs, design summaries, bills of material, and related technical documentation once architecture approval is obtained.
  • Ensure TCOs, SOWs, and architecture-driven procurement materials are accurate, complete, implementation-ready, and aligned to approved enterprise standards before submission. o Reduce post-handoff design changes, procurement rework, implementation delays, and downstream project risk caused by incomplete technical requirements, design omissions, or unclear ownership.
Enterprise Architecture Standards and Governance
  • Own the creation and continuous improvement of enterprise IT architecture standards across infrastructure domains including network, server, voice, endpoint, cloud, Microsoft services, identity, virtualization, and hospital IT infrastructure. Ensure approved standards, deviations, and exceptions are documented, version-controlled, communicated, and applied consistently.
  • Ensure architecture standards are current, practical, supportable, and aligned to enterprise technology strategy, operational capabilities, cybersecurity expectations, and business needs.
  • Identify design variations, standard gaps, recurring exceptions, and emerging technology requirements based on operational feedback and project lessons learned, and formally bring them to the Architecture Review Board for review, disposition, and potential incorporation into enterprise standards.
  • Maintain clear documentation of approved architecture patterns, accepted variants, exceptions, lifecycle expectations, and deprecation paths for legacy designs.
Architecture Governance, ARB Support, and Technical Design Review
  • Act as a core contributor to the Enterprise Architecture Review Board process by preparing architecture topics, presenting design concerns, supporting decision documentation, and ensuring follow-through on approved actions.
  • Ensure proposed designs, technologies, vendor solutions, standards, implementation patterns, and architecture deviations are reviewed through the appropriate governance path before publication or implementation.
  • Review, refine, and approve technical standards, reference architectures, implementation patterns, and design documents authored by SME engineers to ensure they are complete, technically accurate, enterprise-ready, and aligned across domains.
  • Help mature the ARB operating model by improving intake quality, documentation consistency, decision tracking, standards ownership, and visibility into architecture risks, gaps, and recurring exceptions.
  • Identify and resolve cross-domain conflicts between Network, Voice, Security, Server, Endpoint, Facilities, Construction, Field Services, Operations, and vendor requirements before they create project risk.
  • Provide timely, actionable feedback to SME engineers and technical contributors to improve design quality, documentation maturity, cross-domain awareness, and alignment to enterprise architecture standards, driving forward progress with SMEs. o Provide clear technical recommendations to IT leadership when architecture decisions require escalation, prioritization, exception approval, or enterprise-level alignment.
  • Mentor engineers and technical contributors on enterprise architecture expectations, governance requirements, design assumptions, documentation quality, and standards alignment.
Leadership, Communication, and Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor to IT leadership, engineering teams, project teams, operations teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
  • Communicate complex architecture decisions clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Lead cross-functional design discussions while maintaining clear architecture ownership, governance boundaries, and decision discipline.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, documentation quality, standards adoption, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor junior architects, engineers, and technical contributors through design reviews, feedback, and standards development.
  • Balance business urgency with technical integrity, risk management, enterprise standards, and operational supportability.
Education, License and Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in technology infrastructure architecture, engineering, design, or implementation.
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior, lead, or architecture-level role.
  • Proven experience designing and governing complex infrastructure solutions across multiple technical domains.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture principles, infrastructure standards, lifecycle management, and technology governance.
  • Experience reviewing and approving technical designs, implementation patterns, standards, or reference architectures.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including Network, Voice, Server, Endpoint, Cloud, Security, Operations, Field Services, Construction, Procurement, and external vendors.
  • Experience supporting construction, acquisition, integration, divestiture, or multi-site infrastructure initiatives.
  • Ability to produce clear architecture documentation, design plans, technical requirements, TCO inputs, and SOW-ready deliverables.
  • Ability to identify risk, resolve ambiguity, and make practical architecture recommendations in complex environments.
  • Strong communication, presentation, stakeholder management, and technical writing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and design efforts simultaneously.
  • Individual must live in North America.
  • Individual must be comfortable working independently, be self-motivated in an entirely remote environment, and be patient and be able to persevere through adversity.
  • Individual must be willing to travel as necessary, up to 40%, for training, team meetings, site assessments, vendor engagement, and project requirements.
  • Individual must maintain a remote work location suitable for uninterrupted audio/video calls and reliable internet connectivity.
Skills and Experience:
  • Experience in healthcare, veterinary healthcare, multi-site healthcare operations, or distributed enterprise environments.
  • Experience with enterprise networking, SD-WAN, wireless, voice platforms, Microsoft 365, Azure, virtualization, server infrastructure, identity services, endpoint platforms, and hospital IT infrastructure.
  • Experience with Cisco, Meraki, Palo Alto, VMware, Microsoft, Azure, Citrix/VDI, cloud services, monitoring platforms, and automation/orchestration technologies.
  • Familiarity with architecture frameworks and IT governance practices such as TOGAF, ITIL, COBIT, or related methodologies.
  • Experience participating in or leading Architecture Review Boards, technical governance forums, standards committees, or enterprise design councils.
  • Experience developing reference standards, implementation guides, technical design templates, and operational handoff requirements.
  • Relevant vendor, cloud, networking, security, Microsoft, or enterprise architecture certifications preferred.
