Job Description


McKinlay & Peters Equine Hospital is a full service, equine exclusive, practice serving Eastern Washington & North Idaho.  With two hospital locations to better serve our clientele, the focus of the Newman Lake location is Lameness, Surgery & Critical Care. Our hospitals include Advanced Imaging Diagnostics, Digital X-Ray, Endoscope, Dynamic Scope, Breeding/Semen Collection, Surgery Suite, Isolation Barn, Rehabilitation, Farrier/Podiatry Center.  

 

MPEH has the expertise, technical staff, facility and equipment to allow us to provide surgical care for horses in need of arthroscopic procedures, fracture repair, treatment of tendon/ligament injuries and repair following trauma and/or laceration. In addition to performance and pleasure horses, we provide surgical treatment for foals with orthopedic issues, limb deformities, contracted tendons, and lameness, and/or traumatic injuries in foals. While our surgical focus began with orthopedic, traumatic and general/elective surgery, the variety of surgery has, and will continue, to expand. 

 

We have a 9-doctor team, including a boarded Internist, and are supported by a strong group of technicians, office staff & barn crew. We have an immediate opening for a dedicated equine surgeon to join our growing team. 

 

Our Ideal Candidate: 

  • Accomplished veterinary professional with a passion for the highest quality veterinary medicine 
  • Diplomate with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or surgery residency-trained veterinarian
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to support clients and patients alike 
  • Ambitious and professional while also enjoying collaboration and teamwork 

About the Position:
 
  • Strong focus on equine surgery with sports medicine work available as well 
  • Flexible schedule that could be modified for a few days a week or maintain a more traditional schedule 
  • Mentorship available on site and through partnerships with other practices 
  • Caseload will consist of elective and emergency surgeries with room for growth and expansion 

Compensation, Bonus Eligibility and Benefits
:
  • The expected salary/hourly range for this position is $145,000 - $ 175,000 per year. The final compensation offered may vary based on factors including experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, and internal equity considerations.
  • Production bonus-eligible based on collections and eligibility criteria.
  • Benefits for this role may include health insurance (medical, dental, vision), retirement benefits, paid time off (including sick leave and vacation), short-term and long-term disability, and life insurance.

About the Area:
 

We are in the heart of the Inland Northwest just west of Idaho and 100 miles south of the Canadian border. The Spokane area is a prime location for outdoor adventures as well as urban outings. The area offers everything from hiking, fishing, and snow skiing (four resorts within two hours travel).
