Veterinary Extern - General Practice

The KAAWS Clinic - Aldine Westfield

Job Description

The KAAWS Clinic - Aldine offers up to a $2000 travel stipend for Clinical Year Externships.

The team at The KAAWS Clinic has a passion for growing and developing the future of veterinary medicine and hosts students of all levels from CVA, CVT, Pre-Vet, and Veterinary. With a hands-on approach, veterinary students can look forward to being a part of the action from doing exams, drawing blood, and even spay/neuter. We do high-volume spay-neuter surgery two days a week and the other days you may spend time doing wellness appointments or helping with dental procedures.

Our Medical Director loves to teach! This externship provides great exposure to routine surgery and includes the opportunity to perform spays/neuters under supervision based on experience and confidence as well as the opportunity to practice speed at routine wellness exams. Students will work closely with the supervising DVMs to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All DVM students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Housing may be available in some instances.
