About Us: Best Friends Animal Hospital is a leading veterinary practice dedicated to providing outstanding care to our community's beloved pets. Our state-of-the-art facility, experienced team, and commitment to excellence make us the perfect place for veterinary students to gain valuable real-world experience. We provide 5 exam rooms, one comfort room, laser therapy, ultrasound, digital dental and full body x-rays, and a fully stocked treatment, lab and surgical area for your hands-on learning needs.


Externship Details: During your externship at Best Friends Animal Hospital, you will have the chance to:

  • Participate in all aspects of patient care including examinations, diagnostic sample collection and interpretation, and medical/surgical procedures. 
  • Engage with pet owners, providing education and support.
  • Gain exposure to a wide range of cases and species.
  • Participate in hospital rounds and discussions.
  • Gain access to the area mentorship program to collaborate with other students.

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in an accredited veterinary school program.
  • Passion for veterinary medicine and commitment to learning.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong desire to contribute positively to patient care and client relationships.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
