- Oversees provision of medical care in the hospital including the support of innovation andcutting-edge medical practice- Responsible for overseeing the development and maintenance of medical policies and SOPsincluding infection control, patient safety etc.- Partners with the Hospital Director to investigate patient safety concerns from staff, clients andreferring veterinarians and supports network wide safety and quality improvement initiatives.- Partners with the HD to develop and implement hospital policies that champion a patient andclient-centric approach.- Ensures that medically based client and RDVM complaints are addressed in a timely andprofessional manner.- Leads by example to provide high quality medicine and outstanding client experience.
- Partners with the Hospital Director (HD), nursing and clinical service leads to develop a team oriented approach to patient care- Partners with HD and talent acquisition to recruit and retain high quality Veterinarians whocontribute to positive culture.- Responsible for DVM engagement and turnover metrics- Provides annual performance evaluations of doctors and/or quarterly check-ins with DVMs.- Partners with the HD in managing concerns regarding DVM performance or professionalism- Supports provision of internal and external medical educational opportunities for doctors,including mentorship and development plans for newly hired veterinarians.- In conjunction with program directors, supports house officer and ER mentorship/developmentprograms.- Holds self and DVMs accountable to positive behavior required to drive a collaborative andpsychologically safe culture.- Provides clinical mentoring and coaching to DVMs and technical staff.
Hospital Operations and Compliance:- Daily monitors their work email account and ensures pertinent information, announcements andresources are passed on to hospital staff where appropriate.- Develops and maintains a hospital environment where all employees feel respected, valued, andheard.- Partners with the hospital director to ensure wellbeing for the hospital’s teams.- Oversees and fosters positive relationships with referring veterinarians.- Provides regular communication to hospital staff, and opportunities for staff to provide feedback.- Works collaboratively as a unit with the HD and runs Doctor and/or service meetings no lessthan quarterly. Develops and supports HD in creating communication plans for hospital andorganizational initiatives.- Represents their hospital by attending at least 70% of MDAC meetings (including regional andnational) unless otherwise arranged with their Director of Medical Operations.
- Partners with HD in development and management of hospital budget and Cap Ex process.- Identifies and evaluates areas for growth with existing services and opportunity for new services,and in partnership with the HD creates plan for initiation.- Provides medical input into hospital development, marketing materials etc.- Partners with the HD in approval and selection of new equipment and medications/products.- Holds self and DVMs accountable to timely and accurate completion of medical records.- Responsible for ensuring that a process is present for all Veterinarians to maintain appropriatelicensure and insurance, including current specialty board membership where applicable- Assists HD in ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations including maintenance ofadequate CE, controlled drug management, OSHA etc.- Attends Leadership training and relationship building opportunities with HD.- DEA registrant (or similar) for hospital Controlled Substance ordering.
- DVM or equivalent degree- Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state in which the hospital is based.- Excellent organizational and administrative skills- Excellent verbal and written communication skills- Excellent Leadership skills
- Previous experience in an administrative role- Minimum of five years of experience of clinical practice experience- Advanced Leadership training- Previous experience of mentoring and teaching junior veterinarians
