Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Counsel, Compliance to join our team. This role will report directly to the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer and will play a crucial part in developing and implementing a best-in-class compliance program that aligns with the Department of Justice (DOJ) requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in compliance, preferably within the veterinary or human health sectors, and possess expertise in DEA, OSHA, EPA and cybersecurity compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance Program Development:
Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive compliance program that meets DOJ standards.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance policies are integrated into business operations.
Regulatory Guidance:
Provide legal guidance on compliance-related matters, including regulatory changes and best practices within the veterinary and healthcare industries.
Monitor and interpret relevant laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
Training and Education:
Develop and deliver training programs for employees and management to promote understanding of compliance obligations and ethical standards.
Foster a culture of compliance through effective communication and education initiatives.
Risk Assessment and Management:
Conduct regular risk assessments to identify compliance vulnerabilities and recommend corrective actions.
Oversee internal audits and investigations related to compliance issues, ensuring timely resolution and reporting.
Investigation and Hotline Oversight
Oversee hotline to ensure adherence to DOJ requirements and best practices
Establish guidelines and train investigators on handling of hotline complaints
Oversee and investigate compliance related complaints as appropriate
Collaboration with Stakeholders:
Work closely with other departments, such as IT, finance, and operations, to ensure alignment with compliance goals.
Liaise with external regulatory bodies, as necessary, to facilitate compliance audits and inspections.
Reporting and Documentation:
Prepare and present compliance reports to senior management and the Board of Directors.
Maintain thorough documentation of compliance activities and outcomes.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in a compliance role, preferably within the veterinary or human health sectors.
Strong knowledge of compliance regulations, including DOJ guidelines DEA, OSHA, EPA and cybersecurity requirements.
Proven track record in developing and implementing effective compliance programs.
Exceptional analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the veterinary or healthcare industry.
Familiarity with risk management frameworks and compliance technologies.
Certification in compliance (e.g., Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional - CCEP) is a plus.
Compensation: The base salary range is between $160,000-215,000 with opportunity for short and long term incentives.
