Schedule and Patient Volumes:

Work-life balance is very important to us, therefore we are very flexible with scheduling.  Our full-time Doctors typically work around 32-35 hours per week, and we are able to offer you the same, less, or more.  We are open from 8 am-5 pm (Mon-Friday) and 8 am-12 pm on Saturday.  The bulk of our schedule is split into shifts.  You have the option to work full days or 5-hour half-day shifts.  We do require that you join in on our Saturday rotation, which is approximately 1 shift per every 3-4 weeks.  No Sunday hours, no emergency, and no holidays.

We are a busy hospital and almost always have a full day of patients. We prefer appointments but do see the occasional walk-in.   With our patient volumes, a new doctor will easily be able to build their clientele.

About the area:

  • Our town is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast—perfectly set between two ski resorts, and only an hour away from Snowshoe Mountain (the premier ski resort in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic and an IMBA Bronze Mountain Biking Destination).  Snowshoe Mountain was home to the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Finals and it is right in our backyard. Elkins also offers a plethora of hiking, fishing, and camping opportunities.
  • We are also surrounded by infinite biking possibilities boasting a variety of terrain.  In addition to the endless outdoor offerings, our region is rich with history and art, museums, historic buildings, and one-of-a-kind pottery, jewelry, paintings, wines, craft beers, locally owned eateries, car shows, live entertainment, and a weekly “Pickin’ in The Park” jam session in our city park all summer long.
  • Elkins also hosts some unique fairs and festivals, adding to the welcoming quality of the area. In the spring it’s the Ramps and Rails Festival, held in our town square and train depot, just adjacent to our hospital. Food vendors concoct a variety of different ramp-inspired foods. Ramps are a wild onion that are native to Appalachia and are a popular “spring tonic” in our area. There are usually about fifty different food and craft vendors set up at this weekend festival. The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad has train rides available to those who want to take one of the first rides of the year.
  • In the summer, the Augusta Heritage Center Summer Workshops is a music and heritage festival held by the Augusta Heritage Center. Over 50 years old, this three-week festival covers old-time music, dance and crafts. Visitors from all over the United States and abroad visit us each year during the Augusta Festival.
  • The Mountain State Forest Festival is one of the oldest and largest festivals in the State of West Virginia and is a week-long celebration of the beauty and splendor of the Mountain State in all of her autumn glory. The festival affords us the opportunity to share with our community and state the important role West Virginia natural resources play in our economic development. Rich in tradition, the Festival offers something for everyone to enjoy, such as headline concerts and music shows, lumberjack competitions, forestry and wood exhibits, juried art shows, photography exhibits, quilt shows, arts and crafts, amusement rides, and parades.
