Many NVA and EVH hospitals offer clinical externships for veterinary students interested in pursuing experience in small animal general practice, specialty, emergency, and large animal medicine. As an extern, you will have the opportunity to utilize the knowledge obtained during classes and apply it while working alongside experienced clinicians, diplomats, and/or current interns. The extent of hands-on work will be determined by your interests, skill set, and the mentoring doctor you’ll be working with. Students’ exposure to a large number of cases, along with the knowledge and expertise of our veterinarians, provides an incredibly valuable learning experience. We partner with a diverse group of well-equipped practices and encourage visiting students to tailor their externship to suit their primary interests. The duration of externships can vary depending on student schedules. On-site housing may be provided depending on externship location.
